to the 1st Brigade (Airborne)
History Project. The
mission of the project
is to record, document
and preserve the unique
history and service of
the paratroopers who
served as members of
the "All The Way Brigade " from
1965 thru 1966 . The
troopers of the 1st Brigade
(Airborne) were the pioneers
of the U. S. Army's doctrine
of combat airmobility.
The brigade evolved from
the 11th Air Assault
Division (Test) at Ft.
Benning Georgia, where
during their brief existence,
developed the concept
and tactics of helicopter
warfare. On July 1, 1965
the 11th Air Assault
(test) became the 1st
Brigade (Airborne) of
the 1st Cavalry (Division
AirMobile) and was the
tip of the Air CAV spear
as it lead the division
into combat during the
first year of the Vietnam
War.
